You Can’t Stop The Music

You can't stop the music
It purifies the air
The notes float and dance around
A laugh against the dare.
You can't stop the music
It'll blow apart the wall
From Jericho to Mexico
The songs are freedom's call.

 Chorus:

When the songs have all been sung
And the guitars put away
The melody soars within you
Your heart beats another day.

No you can't stop the music
The tune lives in our minds
Our brains just can't push them out
They play within the grey confines.

(Chorus)

Yes you can't stop the music
The party must have sound
You toast each other with the songs
Beauty drinks where truth is found.

(Chorus)

David played his music
There was healing in his song
He soothed the king and sang the Psalms
And danced before the throng.

When HaShem created earth
And structured harmony
The music beats in every heart
To set our spirits free.

Xenoblast

Chorus:
How hard can it be to write a song that starts with X,
It’s clearly a problem, to confuse and even vex,
It presents a big old challenge to every age and sex
How hard can it be to write a song that starts with X.

X marks the spot on every treasure map
X is for kisses you give before a nap
X are for rays that come from a machine
Keep the X in Christmas, you’ll see what I mean.

(Chorus)

X is the control key to cut before you paste
X is for xenophobes who judge others in haste
X is for xylophones that make a wooden sound
Use extra excessive excellence and the X song is found.

(Chorus)

X is for your name if you don’t know how to write
X is on a tee shirt that for some fits too tight
X is a chromosome that’s unique and very long
Xenoblast is a crystal and the name of this song.

(Chorus)

Soufflé With Onions

I woke up this mornin’ baby, you were on my mind.
I woke up this mornin’ baby, you were on my mind.
We were doin’ the dream I was havin’,
Somewhere up in cloud nine.

I’m stirring my coffee, tryin’ to get my mind clear
I’m stirring my coffee, tryin’ to get my mind clear
It’s a cold brew with espresso beans
You showed me how to do this last year.

I’d like to cook you breakfast, I just wish you were here.
I’d like to cook you breakfast , I just wish you were here.
But instead of soufflé and mushrooms
I’ll just open myself a beer.

I’m alone at the table, feelin’ a little bit of fear,
I’m alone at the table, feelin’ a little bit of fear
The road ahead is curvin’
Without you I cannot steer.

I woke up this mornin’ baby, you were on my mind.
I woke up this mornin’ baby, you were on my mind.
We were doin’ the dream I was havin’,
Somewhere up in cloud nine.

On That Final Day  (©1984 by Tom Hunter)

Winter’s coming to Wisconsin, the red leaves turn to brown
In the corn fields and the nursing homes, life quiets down
She’s 89 and failing, or at least that’s what we say
Even though she’s lived a long time, it’s hard to say that death’s ok.

Chorus:
And I’ll go with her to the graveyard, To her resting place
In the middle of the cornfields, on that final day.

I go to visit often, we talk of what she’s done
Her husband’s in the lock up ward, he’s 91
Her friends take care of the details, what’ll happen when she’s dead
For now I go and visit her, just to sit and stroke her head.

(Chorus)

The seasons come and the seasons go, the corn will grow again
And death will come more gently now, for being with a friend
The wonder and the mystery find their way down deep inside
Holding on to her old hand, to simply say goodbye.

(Chorus)

The Evangelical Song

Socrates was a philosopher
Jesus was a Jew
Mohammed was a Muslim
Some Christians say they're the few.
The only way to heaven
Is by the lines they drew
Even though I am one of them,
My God what a crew!

Evangelicals vote for Donald Trump
And drive their SUV's
They won't eat with heathens
Yet they'll pray upon their knees.
They're so afraid of Jewish folk
Muslims and Wiccans too.
Dear Lord I often wonder
What they really think about you.

They like to sing their praise songs
With melodies so sweet
They sing of sin and cleansing blood
Every time that they meet
There is nothing about justice
Peace or even love.
You'd think they would do something
To please their God above.

The whole world is hurtin'
There's no doubt about that
Religion could be the answer
But it's not where it's at
We have to come together
Listen, trust, cooperate
Seek the heart of a compassionate God
And start with a fresh clean slate.

Socrates said "know thyself,"
Jesus died on a cross
Mohammed ascended to heaven
Moses said justice is boss.
So please my fellow Christians
Take the blinders from off your eyes
Alleviate some suffering
And maybe you'll get your prize.

Love’s Liquidity

Sittin' on a rock at the water's edge, Sky shining blue
A gentle wind blowin' upon the waves, She doesn't know what to do
Tears are running down her face, Dropping into the sea
As she thinks of her love so far away, And the day that will never be.

Walking from the grave of his best friend, The rain hit the ground
He turned and looked again as they buried him, tears trickling down.
She came to him and looked him in the eye, a sigh she breathed that day
She gently reached her hand to his cheek, To caress the tears away.

Tears fall gently into the sea
Or drop hard upon ground or floor
Some slide and evaporate
Released they open a door

Our babies are born and our loved ones die, our cups overflow
Friends leave, violence stalks our world, yet new seeds we sow.
So when our tears fall to the earth, beneath the oak or at the sea,
They water our world drop by drop, with love’s liquidity.

Psalm 72 (2008)

Refrain:
Give to the President your justice oh God
And give him the wisdom he needs
Give to the President your justice oh God
And give him the wisdom we need.

The mountains will give their blessing
Of majestic mystery
The fields produce their plenty
Abundant prosperity.
The widows, the orphans, the little ones
He’ll have them in front of his mind;
When he asks us to give back to our country
He’ll want us to be generous and kind.

(Refrain)

He inherits two wars and a shattered economy
After eight years of imperial pride
It’s time for all who are patriots
To do what we can at his side.
The nations will see opportunity
To build a lasting peace
They’ll cooperate and negotiate
Serve the interests of the least.

 (Refrain)

We’re all in this together
All peoples of all the lands
Precious is each and every life
Oppression and violence are banned.
Blessed be the God of all
Who alone does wondrous things
Blessed be the holy name
Glorious fullness brings

(Refrain)

Infatuation

She took his hand on a moonlit night
They walked along the lake
A sweet love of summertime
Or was it just a mistake.
She was all of 24
He was just 18
She led him slowly down the hill
Where they could walk unseen.

Infatuation
Can strike at any time
It burns and cools and makes new fools
Infatuation, infatuation, infatuation

They sat together beneath the moon
The stars arrayed above
She touched his face with her soft hand
The one with the ring of love.
Some say that love is blind
Others that it is dead
For some it brings confusion
Or points the way ahead.

Infatuation
Can strike at any time
It burns and cools and makes new fools
Infatuation, infatuation, infatuation

Minnows In the Bucket

There are minnows in the bucket, big fish in the lake
Gulls overhead and pelicans on the take.
The wind blows in your face and the waves are high
Put your line in the water, Mother Nature will provide.

 Chorus:

Respect the earth, protect the earth, enjoy it too!
Fry us up some fish fillets, yum yum hoo!

The eagles catch their share of fish, the ospreys do too
The deer graze quietly, the turtle licks the dew
We have our happy hour, snacks galore to munch
The bears get the rest, all of nature enjoys brunch.

Chorus:

The clouds form their cotton shapes, the trees sing their song
The water flows on with a current just as strong
We give thanks for many gifts from Love who is our guest,
For friends food and family, we know that we are blessed.

Chorus:

Pelicans On The Take

While the lyrics and melody are the same as for "Minnows In The Bucket" this is an improvised version arranged by vocalist Prentice Berge.
